The Great War: Mount Edgcumbe Before and After

The Digital Archive

With funding from Heritage Lottery Fund World War 1: Then and Now Programme, The Friends of Mount Edgcumbe have created a new digital archive at Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, recording life on a country estate before the First World War and the impact of the war on the lives of the people who lived on the estate.

If you live in Devon or Cornwall or are visiting the area and are interested in the history of country estates come to Mount Edgcumbe and explore our digital archive via an interactive touch screen. While you are here you can dress up in our period costumes. You can also explore Mount Edgcumbe Country Park where you will be able to compare today’s buildings, gardens and landscape with those from 100 years ago. You will find displays and traditional craft workshops in the Barrow Centre. You could even stay in a former estate worker’s cottage.
